The bottom edges of the top rails are carefully contrived and cut to create a rippling effect, which is emphasised by the holly stringing, which makes its way unbroken up down and along the 3 faces of the carcase. The profiles of the uprights are ever so slightly hollow where they swell out to meet the rounded faces of the feet.

This piece is solid walnut throughout from a tree which fell inthe great gale of October 1987 near Basingstoke.
